![]() 300 Savage is literally a duplicate of your rifle. You've got one of the best quality, most desireable Model 99s. You may need a magnifying glass to read the LBC because it and the oval in which it was stamped are both often stamped VERY lightly. The Code is inside an oval which is located on the lower, front side of the lever boss in the rear of which is that part into which the lever fits and rotates. The Lever Boss Code is a more accurate (but nothing is "for sure" with Model 99s) way to determine the year of manufacture. Its Lever Boss Code ("LBC") should be the inspector's number followed by the letter "B". ![]() A friend of mine a few tables over got it for $175! I sure wouldn't mind one now.Your 99 sounds like an EG made in late 1950. One of the biggest mistake I made about not buying a gun was the time I was set up at a gun show about 10 years ago and an old guy came in with an older 99 feather weight take down in 30 30, wanted $225 but at the time I really wasn't into rifles like that so I passed. I traded some blacksmith tools for a later 99 in 308, I didn't think it was that well made and couldn't come up any use for it so sold it down the road. They get to it and I ended up getting it and two boxes of shells for $125.The guy bidding against me told me he has an Enfield 303 and was hoping to get another rifle in that caliber!!.OK ![]() I really wasn't in the market for one but did think it was neato. and they had it, never advertised it or anything. Kind of funny how I got it, went to this country auction over in De. Not much finish but no pitting or damage and shot fine the couple times I shot it. I like the cool brass cartridge counter on the side. Has a 25 inch octagon barrel and the desirable "perch Belly" early stock. These were made from 1899-1917 when they switched the model number to model 99. I have an older Savage 1899 in 303 Savage. ![]()
